Residents of Champaign County will have a unique opportunity to receive a dozen, absolutely FREE roses, one to keep and the other 11 to give away. Beginning at 7am roses can be obtained at one of the shops at 1002 N Cunningham Ave, Urbana and 2522 Village Green Place, in Village at the Crossing, Champaign, the Radio Center at 2301 S. Kids age 5 and up are invited to audition for Champaign Urbana Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker. Auditions will be held on Saturday, September 6 at the Champaign Ballet Academy, 2810 W. Clark Road in Champaign. Previous dance training is not required to audition but children must have been born before September 6, 2009. Participants should pre-register for the audition online by 5pm Tuesday, September 2nd. Spurlock Museum, 600 Gregory S. Ave in Urbana, is beginning the exhibit Artists of the Loom: Maya Weavers of Guatemala beginning Saturday, September 16th. This exhibit celebrates not only the artistry and endurance of the Maya weaving tradition but also the cultural intelligence and creative force of the weavers themselves. Museum hours are Tuesdays 12-5, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 9-5, Saturdays 10-4, and Sundays 12-4 and admission is free.  The Museum will be closed December 15-19 and during the winter break between semesters. Dare to Dream, Dream to Build Habitat event hosted by Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County and the Home Builders Association of East Central Illinois on Friday, September 19th at 6:30pm at IHotel, 1900 S 1st St in Champaign.  Join us for dinner, live and silent auction.  All proceeds go directly to the missions' of both organizations to suport local efforts.  Tickets are $100 per person. C.O.P.S. is sponsoring Run from the Cops 5K Run/walk on Saturday, September 20th at 9am at the Western Illinois Fairgrounds, 801 S. Wall in Griggsville IL.
