Lyrics

Can’t wrap my mind around the way
You see me like gold
You stand in my mess, You call out the best in me
When my mind gets crowded with the lies I’m told
You tell me the truth, You show me that You believe in me
You believe in me
You know me as honest
You know me as good
You know me the way that I wish I could
You know me worthy
You know me love
You know me better
When I don’t know where to find me
Show me where to start
Show me who You are
So I know who I am
‘Cause You know who I am
You know me as honest,
You know me as good
You know me the way that I wish I could
You know me worthy
You know me love
You know me better
You know me completely
You know me through
You know me as someone who looks like You
You know me perfect,
You know me strong
You know me better
I am who You say I am
I am who You say I am
Your word will never change
I am who You say I am
I am who You say I am
I am who You say I am
Your word will never change
I am who You say I am
You know me as honest
You know me as good
(I am who You say I am)
You know me the way that I wish I could
(I am who You say I am)
You know me worthy,
You know me love
(Your word will never change)
You know me better
(I am who You say I am)
Oh, You know, You know
You know me completely
You know me through
(I am who You say I am)
You know me as someone who looks like You
(I am who You say I am)
You know me perfect
You know me strong
(Your word will never change)
You know me better
(I am who You say I am)
I am who You say I am
Your word will never change
I am who You say I am

About This Song

a few notes from Joe B., Music Director

Our listeners have really fallen in love with Stars Go Dim's music over their past few singles and I believe they will fall in love with this one as well. We all want to be known - but we are so fearful of being known. But what if we actually believed that we are not just "known better" (as in more deeply) but actually "better" (as in of a more excellent or effective type or quality.) - What if we could truly see ourselves the way God sees us? A new creation. (2 Corinthians 5:17) Our full potential - all that we are in Him (1 John 3:2). The completed state of the work He started in us. (Philippians 1:6) We are a work in progress and we cannot get to "better" without God, but how incredible it is that God sees us as who we are in Christ. In and of ourselves, we are actually far worse than we know ourselves to be, however because of Christ our sin is not held against us and no longer defines us. (2 Corinthians 5:19 | Psalm 32:1-2 | Romans 7:15-24) "It’s God knowing us better than we could know ourselves, but also that I could find my identity in something greater than myself" - Chris Cleveland - And it's all because of what Jesus has done for us! I'm so convinced if we knew how God really sees us - how loved we truly are - there is nothing that would hold us back. All anxiety, worry, and fear would melt away.

"I had been leading worship at a megachurch in Oklahoma for 10 years, traveling full time, and had a beautiful wife who was holding our home and family together by herself with our three young children. Something had to give, so we stepped out of everything that was comfortable and safe in our lives, and we trusted God. Maybe we trusted him for the first time, if I’m honest. We moved across the country. I stepped away from the church, and I took six months off completely—like, I didn’t do anything! For a type 3 enneagram (achiever), that was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but it was also the most rewarding. During that time we were allowed to rest, to heal, to regain our faith. I was able to write about it, and to put a soundtrack to those moments—moments of loss and struggle and moments of hope and joy! 'You Know Me Better' was a song I wrote with some dear talented friends that helped me get through some of the hardest times during that season. Over the years I had build my entire identity on my talent, on who I was on stage, on my voice, so when we stripped that away I didn’t know who I was at all. The lyrics to this song really spoke to me during that time... It was exactly what I needed to remind me that I was not simply what I did for a living or what I could do with my talent, but it was so much more than that. I could find my identity in something greater than myself, but also know that I was created as something GOOD." - Chris Cleveland
