Special events for the entire family and two free days highlight the celebration for Mr. Lincoln’s 215th birthday at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in February!
Join us for free admission for all guests on both Saturday, February 10, and Monday, February 12.
On Saturday, February 10, we’ll celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s love of reading and life-long learning with the Lincolns4Lincoln Literacy Jam to benefit Compass for Kids. This special event especially for kids will happen from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. in our museum plaza. The Literacy Jam will feature story-time from celebrity readers, musical entertainment, a magician, local sports mascots, and interactive activities for children.
10:00 a.m. – Cast members of the Hoogland Center for the Arts children’s musical, “Finding Nemo” will offer a special story and perform a number from the musical.
10:30 a.m. – Granny Bee will read several special books for our youngest guests.
11:00 a.m. – Tater Tots Rock will get everyone moving and dancing with their special brand of rock n’ roll for the junior set.
11:30 a.m. – Jenna Snow and her service dog Koa will share their story of companionship and you’ll have a chance to get a “paw-graph” from Koa!
12:00 p.m. – Jacobsen Woollen from the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and Illinois Symphony Youth Orchestra will read a musical story, perform a special musical piece, and offer a show and tell of musical instruments.
12:30 p.m. – Miss Capital City Teen Lucy Kuelper and Miss Land of Lincoln Teen Nora Tobin will each read a story and meet with children for photos afterwards.
1:00 p.m. – Magician Richard Landry dazzles young and old alike with MAGIC THAT MOTIVATES and encourages the love of reading and learning!
1:30 p.m. – Cast members of the Hoogland Center for the Arts children’s musical, “Winnie the Pooh” will offer a special story and perform a number from the musical.
Plus, mascots from local sports teams will be roaming throughout the plaza to meet n’ greet our guests and offer special photo ops throughout the Literacy Jam… Check out activity tables to make special take home crafts… and learn more about our community partners – Compass for Kids and Springfield’s Lincoln Public Library!
Lincolns4Lincoln Literacy Jam is more than just a fun day at the museum. It’s also a community effort to provide new books to children who are served by the Compass for Kids’ school year programs, Club Compass and Youth Leadership Development Program. Through innovative after-school and summer programs, Compass for Kids provides resources and support to underserved children in Springfield Public Schools – District 186.
There are several ways you can help and donate a new book. Just drop by the special display in the ALPLM Museum Store or Springfield’s Barnes and Noble bookstore or donate on-line
